Miroslaw Balka will present his first solo exhibition 'Fragment' at the National Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow in October 2013.
He has been described as 'master poet of infinite vision' and his works are described as having 'a mysterious and poetic element' which is always connected with the specific place they were conceived and made.
Several well known works by the artist, which have already become classics of contemporary art, such as Winterreise (2003), Carrousel (2004), BlueGasEyes (2004) and others will be represented at the exhibition.
This project develops the theme of the interaction between personal and historical memory. The artist interprets broken history of his country through the prism of crimes against humanity committed in the 20th century and through the prism of his own Catholic upbringing.
The 'Fragment' in Moscow is going to be a kind of the final element of a very well known geopolitical triptych: Warsaw – Berlin – Moscow. Or more generally: Poland – Germany – Russia. And it will complete it. With all kind of overtones, experiences, hopes and fears involved in it.
